Drawing in Glass: 6 Wednesday Evenings
Drawing with Glass: Playing with lines and shapes in fused glass, 6 week long evening class
Service Description
Drawing with Glass: Playing with lines and shapes in fused glass In this beginner and intermediate fused glass class we will explore drawing in a variety of ways with glass and with different materials in and on glass. We will playfully put our hand to drawing techniques such as blind contour drawing, and continuous line drawing. We will discuss different types of mark making and shading techniques in drawing, as a basis and inspiration for our glass art works. Students will then translate these drawings into unique glass projects. We will sculpt with wire and fuse it into glass, use glass stringers made in a vitrigraph kiln of different thicknesses, and make compositions of these lines to create dynamic drawings in glass. We will draw details into our glass compositions with ceramic pencils on glass. Finally students will get the opportunity to combine their favorite glass drawing techniques into a final glass art project over the last 2 classes. We will be looking at artists who drew in space or inspired abstraction by pioneering new ways of working with line, shape, and color such as Alexander Calder, Wassily Kandinsky, Sol LeWitt, Piet Mondrian, and Hilma af Klimt. This class requires no previous glass experience, and you definitely don’t need to be experienced with drawing either. It only requires an open mind and a thirst for creating in a small group studio setting. If you do come with experience and skills, these will be enjoyed and put to good use in your glass work. This class accommodates all levels.
